Iran-Israel Heats Up, Death Threats To Israeli Athletes At The 2024 Olympics Lead

JAKARTA - The Paris Prosecutor's Office provided information regarding the threat of murder to Israeli athletes on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

As reported by Reuters, French police have opened an investigation into the death threats received by three Israeli athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Cybercrime officers are also investigating the release of personal data of athletes on social networks on Friday, July 26, 2024, local time.

In an official statement, Israel's National Cyber Directorate said that after the investigation, they came to the conclusion that Iranian hackers created social media channels to publish personal information about members of the Israeli delegation and send them threatening messages.

On the same day, Israel's Foreign Minister warned France of a potential Iran-backed plan to target Israeli athletes and tourists during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Earlier, in an Iranian statement to the United Nations, they rejected the acceptance and protection of Israeli athletes at the 2024 Olympics.

"Iran condemns the acceptance and protection of Israeli athletes at the Olympics in Paris for Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza. Announces, acceptance and protection of the Zionist terrorist regime apartheid means giving legitimacy to child killers."

"Terrorist actions have no place in the principles of the resistance group. Lies and fraud cannot divert the role of the plaintiff and are accused," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Meanwhile, French officials said Israeli athletes at the 2024 Olympics were escorted from and to the scene by elite tactical units and given 24-hour protection during the event.

Israel's internal security service, Shin Bet, also helped with security.

"Full support for the actions taken by the French authorities. This sends important messages to individuals and organizations trying to threaten athletes," said an Israeli diplomatic source.
