German Doubles Withdraw To Make Fajar/Rian Lose

JAKARTA The withdrawal of German men's doubles, Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel, from the 2024 Paris Olympics automatically caused a loss of Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

The International Badminton Federation (BWF) through an official statement confirmed that Lamsfuss decided to withdraw due to a knee injury he suffered.

The decision to withdraw was made by Lamsfuss and his colleagues, which affected Fajar/Rian. The reason is, their victory in the inaugural Group C match was abolished.

"According to the general competition BWF regulations for the group stage, the results of all matches played, or not played, involving Group C are now considered deleted," wrote the BWF statement.

Fajar/Rian should be scheduled to play their second match in the group against the host's representative, Ronan Labar/Lucas Corvee, today, Monday, July 29, 2024, at 16.00 WIB.

Meanwhile, Mark/Marvin should clash with the former world number one pair from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty. However, the two matches will not be played.

Fajar/Rian previously started their first match with a win over Mark/Marvin. The result made them rise and sit at the top of the group.

However, now the 2024 All England champions have dropped to second place without pocketing points. Their place was shifted by Satwiksairaj/Chirag.
