2024 Olympics: Fajar/Rian Win Against German Representatives

JAKARTA Men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto secured victory when they started the preliminary round of Group C of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 2024 All England champions won two straight games 21-13 and 21-17 over the German pair Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena or Adidas Arena, Saturday, July 27 evening WIB.

Fajar/Rian will next meet deputy host Ronan Labar/Lucas Corvee in the group's second match. This is the pair who appeared in Paris thanks to the win over the lawsuit over the error in calculating points by BWF at the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS)

After that Fajar/Rian fought the former world number one pair from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, in the group's last match.

From doubles, the two best pairs from each group will penetrate into the quarter-finals. To be able to lock the group winner, Fajar/Rian ideally needs to wipe out the remaining two matches.

Previously, Indonesian representatives from women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti started the group stage with results that were not as expected.

The pair who won the 2021 SEA Games gold medal lost against the Japanese pair, Mayu Matsutomo/Wakana Nagahara. The result made them need to win the remaining two matches if they wanted to qualify.
