2024 Olympics: Apri/Fadia Lose In First Match
JAKARTA - women's doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti lost their first match in the preliminary round of Group A of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Both of them gave up two straight games 22-24 and 15-21 against the Japanese pair, Mayu Matsutomo/Wakana Nagahara, at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena or Adidas Arena, Saturday, July 27 evening WIB.
This defeat made the pair who won the 2021 SEA Games gold medal have to settle for third place in the group standings.
They are now behind Mayu/Wakana who are in the first and first seed position of China, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, in second place.
Apri/Fadia will then meet Chen/Jia and Malaysian representatives Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan in the group's last match.

If you want to keep the chances safe to qualify for the knockout stages, Apri/Fadia should not lose again in their remaining two matches.
On paper, the record against Chen/Jia is quite bad. Of the previous seven clashes, they only won once when they met at the Malaysia Open 2022.
Meanwhile, with the Malaysian pair, so far Apri/Fadia are still balanced. Of the six clashes, they lost three times and won three times.
