President's Cup 2024 Semifinals: Persija Challenges Borneo, Persis Awaited by Arema

JAKARTA The 2024 President's Cup competition has entered the semifinals. The teams that are still standing in the event will play this round at the beginning of tomorrow's week.

JAKARTA - All two semifinal matches will take place at the Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java. This is different from the group stage which took place in three different cities.

The four teams that can reach the semifinals are Arema FC, Borneo FC, Persija Jakarta, and Persis Solo's home team. The first two clubs qualified as group winners, while the remaining two were runners-up.

Borneo topped Group A with a collection of seven points. They won twice each over Persis and Persib Bandung and drew against PSM Makassar.

Arema also collected the same points to top Group B. Singo Edan won over Bali United and Madura United and drew with Persija on the second matchday.

Exactly on the way to the semifinals collected one win, one draw, and one defeat. A similar note was obtained by Persija Jakarta who trailed behind Arema.

As the group leader, Borneo will then meet Persija Jakarta, runner-up in Group B. Their duel will take place on Tuesday, July 30 at 19.30 WIB.

Meanwhile, another match will bring Arema together with Persis. The fight between the two teams will take place on Wednesday, July 31, with the same kick-off time.

The duel between the four teams was only held in one leg. So, the teams that won automatically immediately reached the final round which will take place on Sunday, August 4.

The winners of each match are scheduled to meet in the blackout final, August 4. The final match of the President's Cup always presents interesting and dramatic actions. Especially in the final match. In 2015, the final was held in Jakarta with Persib Bandung coming out as champions after defeating Sriwijaya FC with a score of 2-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

Two years later, in 2017, the final took place in Bogor. Arema managed to beat Pusamania Borneo with a landslide score of 5-1 at Pakansari Stadium, making Arema the dominant champion that year.

The 2018 final will be held again in Jakarta. This time, Persija Jakarta emerged as the champion after defeating Bali United with a score of 3-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

2019 witnessed a tense final between Arema and Persebaya. The first leg match at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, ended in a 2-2 draw. However, in the second leg at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, Arema managed to beat Persebaya with a score of 2-0, thus winning the 4-2 aggregate.

After a gap of several years, the final of 2022 again featured Arema as the champion. In the first leg at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, Arema won 1-0 against Borneo Samarinda. The second leg match at the Segiri Stadium, Samarinda, ended in a 0-0 draw, ensuring Arema won the 1-0 aggregate and won the title again.

These matches have shown Arema's dominance in recent years as well as fierce competition between Indonesia's big teams on the national football stage.
