JABAR - The Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park Center (TNGGP) closed the climb this weekend, 27-28 July. The closure was due to the fact that the hiking trail was used as a place for the XXI 2024 National Sports Week (PON) track qualifying round.
Public Relations of the TNGGP Center, Agus Deni, said the climb would reopen on Monday, July 29.

"The activities of Gede Pangrango Ultra Marathon 2024 are a series of 2024 PON trail running qualifications and road to National Nature Conservation Day 2024, so climbing is closed for two days," he said.
He explained that climbers who will rise after opening are expected to follow the rules and bring standard equipment because the conditions at the top of Mount Gede are experiencing a cold enough temperature and even reach 0 degrees.
Even a few days ago, his party received reports of temperatures at a peak of up to -5 degrees Celsius and at risk of causing hypothermia, so climbers were asked to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as well as calls from officers at the entrance.
"Prisoners are also asked to prepare drinks and food that can warm, avoid drinks that contain caffeine and alcohol," he said.
Each climber is asked to prepare carefully, including the physical, technical and equipment health needed to be ensured according to safety standards to avoid hypothermia due to cold temperatures.
"We also place officers along the hiking trail to the Suryakancana Square, to ensure that climbing can still be done and to urge climbers to use equipment, especially clothes that can warm the body," he said.
