Indonesia Initiating Strengthening Sustainable Coconut Sector Innovation

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) invites all producing countries to focus on developing and implementing regulatory standards that are actively to advance a sustainable coconut industry that supports the 51st green economy in Cocotech in Surabaya, East Java.

Director General of International Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, said that synergy between countries is needed to overcome various common challenges.

"The Cocotech Conference has been holistically discussing the use of the coconut sector from an economic, social, and environmental perspective. Cocotech discusses research and innovation efforts to produce breakthroughs in the world capital sector," said Djatmiko, quoted from ANTARA, Wednesday, July 24.

Djatmiko said that efforts to utilize the coconut sector need to be driven by synergistic policy regulations from upstream to downstream.

In addition, it is necessary to support international bodies that focus on increasing coconut sector production through qualified research and innovation so that coconut becomes one of the renewable energy solutions.

Currently, various processed products for food coconut and non-food are increasingly in demand because of their quality and usefulness.

For this reason, research and innovation need to move forward in order to continue to encourage coconut potential in the renewable energy sector.

Furthermore, Djatmiko added, downstreaming through research and innovation needs to be encouraged so that the potential of coconut commodities can be maximized.

"In short, I underline that downstreaming through research and innovation so that added-valued products need to continue to move forward, which is strengthened by investment in the renewable energy sector. Indonesia as the leader in the global energy transition must utilize coconut potential as a need for green energy," he said.

The 51st Cocotech is an event organized by the Ministry of Trade in collaboration with the International Coconut Community (ICC).

This activity is a strategic platform for stakeholders to share the latest developments in research, innovation, and the best practices in the coconut sector.

In addition, this activity is an opportunity to build networks to collaborate globally in supporting sustainable food and energy security.
