Landslide In Ethiopia, 50 Bodies Evacuated From Mud

JAKARTA - A total of 50 bodies were removed from the mud following two landslides in southern Ethiopia.

There was heavy rain last night and several people died from landslides, said Kassahun Abayneh, a government spokesman for the Gofa district in the state of Southern Ethiopia.

"On the morning (Monday), local residents, including the police, gathered at the location to rescue residents affected by the first landslide. That's when the second landslide occurred and those who gathered there died," he continued.

Magar Mitku, the general administrator of the Gofa district in Southern Ethiopia, said women, children and local police were among the dead, reports Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC).

Photos on Facebook shared by the EBC showed a number of people on the slopes looking for victims.
