US Imposing Sanctions For 2 Russian Hacker Boss Cyber Army

JAKARTA - The United States has imposed sanctions on two leaders of the Russian hacker group Cyber Army of Russia Reborn on the grounds of their role in targeting critical US infrastructure.

"Yuliya Vladimirovna Pankratova and Denis Olegovich Degtyarenko are the leaders of the group and the main hackers," the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Their group, known as CARR, has carried out cyberattacks in Ukraine and the countries and companies that support it. Last year, CARR began claiming attacks on several important infrastructure projects in the United States and Europe.

"CARR's efforts and its members to target our important infrastructure constitute unacceptable threats to our citizens and communities, with potentially dangerous consequences," said Deputy Finance Minister for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson.

But it did not explain the sanctions referred to by the US Treasury Department.
