Police Arrest Gang Of Elderly Targeting Gendams In Semarang, Earns IDR 150 Million In Money
SemarANG - Semarang Polrestabes, Central Java, arrested three members of a fraudulent gang with a gendam mode targeting elderly female victims (elderly).
Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Semarang Polrestabes Kompol Andika Dharma Sena said the gang stole Rp150 million and around 50 grams of jewelry from the action carried out on June 3, 2024.
The perpetrator used the mode of pretending to exchange foreign currencies.
The three perpetrators arrested were AW (39), a resident of West Jakarta, DNL (40) a resident of Bekasi City, and HW (49) a resident of Karawang Regency.
"The perpetrators have their respective roles in action," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 18.
According to him, one perpetrator pretended to be a foreigner who came to the victim of a woman who was 70 years old.
Then, he said, two other perpetrators joined in pretending to help the victim to communicate with the perpetrator who pretended to be a foreigner.
"There are also perpetrators who pretend to be the leaders of a bank branch," he added.
The perpetrators, he continued, managed to convince the victim until they finally disbursed their deposit savings with a total of Rp150 million and 50 grams of jewelry.

Andika said the police needed about a month to arrest the perpetrators who had fled to their home areas.
The perpetrators were secured by the rupiah currency and various foreign currencies used as tools during their actions.
For their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code regarding fraud.
