KPK Investigate Corruption In Semarang City Government, Procurement Of Goods And Services To Extortion Of Employees

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating allegations of corruption in the Semarang City Government, Central Java. There were several cases handled, one of which was related to the procurement of goods or services.

"The investigations being carried out by the KPK are allegations of corruption in the procurement of goods or services within the Semarang City Government from 2023 to 2024, allegations of extortion of civil servants for incentives for collecting taxes and levies in the Semarang City area as well as the alleged receipt of gratuities from 2023 to 2024," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika at a press conference at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, July 17.

Tessa has not detailed further about the case in hand but at this stage there are already suspects who have been named. In addition, searches have also been carried out.

"We really convey that there are investigation activities being carried out by fellow investigators in the Semarang area," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

"What are the activities for, where we can't release them yet. Hopefully by the time the activity is finished, maybe in the next few days or weeks, friends will be given another update," continued Tessa.

Previously, KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata confirmed that there was a search in Semarang City, Central Java today. He said this process was related to the case being handled.

"Yes, there must be an investigation of a case related to alleged corruption in the Semarang City Government," Alexander said when confirmed by reporters, Wednesday, July 17.

He did not specify which locations were searched. However, investigators had visited the Hevearita Mayor's Office Gunaryanti Rahayu or Mbak Ita.

"I don't know if the places that were searched were," he concluded.
