Call The Residents' Tin Mining In Babel Legal, AGO: Small Miners Just To Find Food

JAKARTA - Director of National Strategic Development Security of the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence at the Attorney General's Office, Patris Yusran Jaya, assessed that tin ore mining carried out traditionally in the Province of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel) is legal.

According to him, the principle of legality can be seen from the people who mine only to meet their daily needs.

"In quotes, I consider this traditional tin mine legal," said Patris Yusran Jaya during a coordination meeting on governance of confiscated goods in criminal acts of corruption in Pangkalpinang, Babel, Wednesday, July 17, confiscated by Antara.

The former Assistant for Special Crimes at the Babel Islands Prosecutor's Office emphasized to law enforcement officials to differentiate action against illegal miners and large ones.

"It must be distinguished in law enforcement against illegal miners using pump machines with illegal miners using a suction ship. These small miners are only for finding food, while the other one is for the wealth of seven derivatives," he said.

According to him, the people of the Province of the Babel Islands are not prosperous with this abundant natural wealth, because there are indications of law enforcement carried out by law enforcement officers, either using the Mineral, Forestry, Environmental Law and ultimately the Corruption Act.

"This is indicated that there is an error in the tin ore mining process and this is what causes the gap between natural wealth and the living standards of the community and the regional economy," he said.

He admitted that he was familiar with the Babel Islands Province, because in 1997 to 2021 he served at the Belitung District Attorney's Office and 2019 again served at the Babel Islands Prosecutor's Office as Assistant for Special Crimes and was subsequently transferred to the West Jakarta Kejari, served as Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Attorney General's Office and was inaugurated as Director of National Strategic Development at the Attorney General's Office for Attorney General's Intelligence.

"What happened to enforce nickel mining law in Southeast Sulawesi almost the same as the Babel Islands, law enforcement on nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi was carried out massively using the Minerba Law instrument," he said.
