Google Launches Web API Fitbit To Easily Share AFib Data

JAKARTA Fitbit and Pixel are devices that can analyze heart rhythms during their users being quiet or asleep. When irregular rhythms appear, this is referred to as atrium fibrillation (AFib). This condition affects tens of millions of people in various parts of the world and has the potential to increase the risk of stroke by five times. Therefore, AFib requires direct supervision from experienced medical personnel or doctors. To make it easier for users to control their health, AFib data in Fitbit can be exported or shared separately with service providers. Although it is not difficult to do, sending these data is less efficient. In urgent circumstances, Fitbit users may find it difficult to share their data. Therefore, Google launched a new capability where AFib data can be accessed by health service partners via Web API Fitbits.

Kapil Parakh, Senior Medical Leader of Google Health, explained that the function of this Web API Fitbit is simple. Health service partners don't need to create applications because they can access user data directly through the API. "They can more easily use data from Fitbit devices on iOS and Android in patient care and research," Kapil said. "The availability of these new endpoints means people can get more proactive support regarding their health." With the launch of Web API Fitbits, hospitals can enter AFib data from Fitbit devices into their users' heart health programs. They can immediately prepare medical testing to make the right diagnosis.
