Gemini Immediately Take Over More Google Assistant Tasks, Such As Alarms And Teamers
JAKARTA - Google is developing an extension of the Clock tool for Gemini that will allow Gemini to set alarms and timers without relying on Assistant. Gemini will also soon get a new feature on the lock screen, allowing users to perform various functions without unlocking the device.
The new background mode is also being developed, which allows users to resume conversations with Gemini while using another app or on the lock screen.
Gemini, a more sophisticated digital assistant in some aspects than Google Assistant, still relies on Assistants for some features, such as setting alarms or timers. However, this may not last long.
In the APK teasedown of the latest Google app beta release (version 15.27.33), it is found evidence that Google is working on a Clock Tool extension for Gemini. This extension will give Gemini the ability to set alarms and timers without Google Assistant assistance. Here are some screenshots showing UI from this extension:
Function on Lock Screen
In addition to the Jam tool extension, Google is also developing a new function for Gemini's key screen. This feature allows users to perform various functions such as replying to messages, finding music, controlling smart devices, and others when the device is locked.
This key screen function will support Gemini's extension, as long as the extension does not require user credentials or access personal data. This means that the Jam tool extension will also be available on the lock screen, allowing users to set alarms and timers without unlocking the device.

New Background Mode: Gemini Live
In addition to the clock tool extension and enhanced key screen function, Gemini will also get a new background mode called Gemini Live. This mode will run in the background and allow users to continue conversation with Gemini while using another app or when the screen is locked.
Gemini Live can be a useful addition, allowing users to get contextual information from Gemini while using other applications. Users will be able to end this background mode with voice commands or via persistent notifications.
With all these improvements, Gemini has the potential to become more independent and functional without always relying on Google Assistant, as well as providing a smoother and more efficient user experience.
