Hasyim Asy'ari Asusila Fired, Head Of Bawaslu To KPU: Badai Pasti Berlalu
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja assessed that the situation being faced by the KPU was not easy. He said this after the DKPP decision which imposed the sanction of dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari as Chairman of the KPU because he was proven immoral.
"We hope that whatever happens at the KPU, I have conveyed to Mr. Afif (Plt Chairman of the Indonesian KPU) that the storm will pass. The KPU ship must continue to sail, whoever it is, the captain," Bagja said at the Coordination Meeting for the Implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in Sumatra which was monitored online from Jakarta, Tuesday, July 9, was confiscated by Antara.
To note, Mochammad Afifuddin was decided as Acting Chairman of the Indonesian KPU to replace Hasyim temporarily based on the results of a closed plenary meeting conducted by members of the Indonesian KPU at the Indonesian KPU Office, Jakarta, Thursday, July 4.
Bagja also said that he wanted to visit the Indonesian KPU after the DKPP decision. However, he refused because he wanted to protect the feelings of other Indonesian KPU members.

He considered this also to avoid non-essential things that could have a negative impact. Even so, Bagja appreciates the current internal situation of the Indonesian KPU.
"We maintain the feelings of our friends at the KPU commissioner. To maintain that, we do not even comment on whatever the DKPP decision is. We are only ready to implement the DKPP decision and supervise the DKPP decision according to the verdict submitted by Mr. Heddy (Chairman of DKPP)," he said.
In addition, Bagja revealed that the man who is familiarly called Afif had visited Bawaslu after being appointed as Acting Chairman of the Indonesian KPU.
He is also optimistic that the Indonesian KPU can hold the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada which has 141 days left.
