This Is Jokowi's Answer Regarding The Pressure To Resign Minister Of Communication And Information Budi Arie In The Aftermath Of Hacked PDNS

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conveyed an answer to the pressure of a number of parties who asked Budi Arie Setiadi to resign from the position of Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo).

The pressure was related to cyber attacks on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) in Surabaya which occurred since Wednesday 17 June. As a result of the cyber ransomware attack, the servers of a number of institutions and ministries were paralyzed

"Everything has been evaluated," said President Jokowi after inaugurating the South Korean battery and electric vehicle ecosystem in Karawang, West Java, Wednesday, July 3, which was confiscated by Antara.

Budi Arie Setiadi's insistence on resigning from the position of Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, one of which was voiced by the Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (Safenet) by raising a petition via the change.org page which has been open since June 26, 2024.

To this day, a petition titled "PDNS Kena Ransomware, Minister of Communications and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi Must Resign!" has been signed by 22,177 netizens.

PDNS 2 in Surabaya experienced a cyber attack in the form of ransomware called Brain Chiper, the latest variant of Lockbit 3.0. At its peak, PDNS has been inaccessible since Thursday, June 20, which resulted in public services being inaccessible, including immigration services.

Safenet said, there were at least 282 government agencies using PDNS who were affected by the cyber attack.

The government is targeting the recovery of the PDNS 2 cyber attack in Surabaya to be completed this month.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also emphasized the importance of national data reserves in order to anticipate similar incidents repeated in the future.

"On the back up of all our national data, so if there is a match, we are not surprised," he said.
