New WhatsApp Feature "Imagine Me" Leaks, Can Create AI Stickers From Users

JAKARTA - WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature that allows users to create personalized AI images. This feature is called "Imagine Me" and will allow users to upload photos of themselves to train AI models.

WhatsApp now embraces AI to help users select new profile photos or show themselves at unique locations. WABetaInfo found a new feature that is being developed in WhatsApp Beta for Android (2.24.14.7) which will offer to create AI photos resulting from the user's appearance.

So, users don't need to worry anymore to capture the perfect moments while on vacation WhatsApp's new chatbot will be able to create their appearance from thin air.

How Does It Work?

Although this feature isn't yet available, leaked screenshots suggest that users will be asked to upload some reference selfies when they first use this feature. Meta AI chatbots will then create new images that "shadow" users in different environments "like forests or outer space".

This all sounds like a personalized AI image generator built directly into WhatsApp. We can't imagine many cases of use for this feature except to use the resulting images as stickers in WhatsApp chats.

Meta AI Launch on WhatsApp

Meta AI in WhatsApp has recently started rolling out in several regions, including the US and India. In addition to one-on-one chats, users can also use this chatbot in WhatsApp group chats.

However, this AI-generated photo feature may not be arriving anytime soon. The launch of this chatbot is still ongoing even in supported areas. To find out if the user has access, look for a new blue icon on the main chat list screen. The company has also been experimenting with reshuffling the top search bar to suggest an AI chat prompt.

WABetaInfo also recently discovered a new screen that allows users to switch between different language model sizes. Meta's Llama 3-405B language model is larger and significantly more capable than 3-70B Llama, which supports the current iteration of Meta AI.

Interestingly, this screenshot shows weekly limitations for Llama 3-405B. Competitors like ChatGPT and Claude also use the same tactics, where users only get a number of GPT-4o responses at a free level. While it is not yet clear whether Meta plans to monetize its chatbots, AI-generated photos could be one of the company's first attempts to build a loyal user base.
