US Military Bases in Europe Raise Alert Status

JAKARTA - Several United States (US) military bases in Europe are now operating on high alert.

The Force Protection Condition (FPCON) alert level "Charlie" was imposed over the weekend, according to two US officials as reported by ABC News, Monday, July 1.

According to the US Army, Charlie is the second-highest alert status that "applies when an incident occurs or intelligence information is received indicating the possibility of some form of terrorist action or the possibility of targeting personnel or facilities."

Meanwhile, the US European Command said it was continuously assessing various factors regarding security and safety.

"For operational security reasons, we will not take specific action, but we remain vigilant," EUCOM wrote.
