OpenAI Delays Launch Of 'Voice Mode' Feature Until July
JAKARTA - OpenAI, the ChatGPT maker, announced on Tuesday, June 25, that it was delaying the launch of the "Voice Mode" feature until July due to technical problems.
The company originally planned to roll out this realistic voice conversation experience to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users by the end of June, but said it took them time to reach the desired launch standard.
"For example, we are improving the model's ability to detect and reject certain content. We are also working on improving our user experience and preparing our infrastructure for millions of users scale while maintaining real-time responses," OpenAI said in a post on social media platform X.
This feature will initially be released to a small group of users to collect feedback and will be available to all Plus users in the fall, provided that security checks and reliability are met, the company said.

OpenAI is also developing new video and screen sharing capabilities. In May, the company announced it would release a new AI model called GPT-4o, which is able to have realistic voice conversations and interact through text and images, the latest step to stay ahead in the race to dominate developing AI technology.
This new audio capability will allow users to talk to ChatGPT and get real-time responses without delays, as well as interrupt ChatGPT while speaking - both of which are hallmarks of realistic conversations that have been a challenge for AI voice assistants.
In addition, ChatGPT's advanced Voice Mode can understand and respond with emotions and non-verbal gestures, bringing us closer to real-time natural conversations with AI. "Our mission is to bring this new experience to you with great consideration," said OpenAI.
