Response To The DPR MKD Decision, Bamsoet: Let The People Who Judge

JAKARTA - MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) responded to the decision of the Honorary Council of the Council (MKD) which stated that he violated the code of ethics related to the statement 'all political parties agreed to amend the improvement of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia'.

Bamsoet respects the MKD's decision to impose sanctions with a written warning.

"Regarding the MKD decision today, I would like to convey that I appreciate the decision of my noble friends," said Bamsoet when confirmed, Monday, June 24.

However, the Golkar legislator was reluctant to comment on the case that was the cause of the MKD's decision. He invited the public to assess his remarks which were considered to contain elements of violating the council's code of ethics.

"However, I do not want to polemic by commenting on a decision that I did not make, so that the dignity of the MKD is maintained. Let the people judge," said Bamsoet.

Previously, the House of Representatives' Honorary Court (MKD) stated that DPR Commission III member Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) who served as Chairman of the MPR RI was proven to have violated the code of ethics related to the statement 'all political parties agreed to amend the refinement of the 1945 Constitution'.

In the verdict hearing read by the Chief Justice of the MKD Adang Daradjatun, the DPR MKD imposed light sanctions on Bamsoet. The sanction was taken after considering the facts and witness statements.

"One, stated that the defendant was proven to have violated. Two, giving sanctions to the defendants trying to get light sanctions with a written warning. Three, the defendants should not repeat it and be more careful in their attitude," said Adang.

Adang explained that the MKD concluded that Bamsoet was proven to have violated the code of ethics after raising the testimony of the defendant, listening to the statements of witnesses and examining the evidence of the complainant's documents.

Adang said any action from an official must put the interests of the nation above the group. "Members in every action must express the interests of the nation and state rather than the personal interests of a person and a group," said Adang.

Adang emphasized that members of the DPR must carry out the mandate of the people and use their authority in the interests of the people.

"Members are responsible for carrying out the mandate of the people to carry out their duties fairly, comply with the law, respect the existence of legislative institutions and use the functions of their duties and authorities given to them for the benefit and welfare of the people," he concluded.
