Apple And Meta Discuss AI Partnership

JAKARTA - Meta Platforms inc., Facebook's parent company, has held intensive talks with Apple Inc regarding the integration of Meta's generative AI model into the AI system recently announced by Apple for the iPhone. This was first reported by the Wall Street Journal on Sunday, June 23.

Apart from Google and Meta, AI startups such as Anthropic and Perplexity are also in talks with Apple to bring their generative AI to Apple Intelligence, according to a report citing sources familiar with the matter.

Apple, Meta, Perplexity, and Anthropic have not responded immediately to requests for comment from the media.

The discussions are not final and can still be canceled, the report said, adding that a deal with Apple would help AI companies get wider distribution for their products.

The size of the potential financial gain is unclear, but the talks involve companies AI selling premium subscriptions to their services through Apple Intelligence.

The iPhone maker announced the long-awaited AI strategy this month, saying it would integrate new Apple Intelligence technologies into its suite of apps, including Siri, and bring Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT, to its devices.
