The House Of Representatives' Hajjwas Team Highlights Tents Of Hajj Pilgrims Similar To Refugee Barracks, There Are No Restrictions On Men/Women

JAKARTA - The DPR's Hajj supervisory team (Timwas) found the condition of Indonesian pilgrims' tents similar to refugee barracks in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

"We regret the poor service of the congregation in Mina. As a result of the tents under capacity, some congregants were forced to mingle between male and female pilgrims without a barrier," said member of the House of Representatives Hajj Team Wisnu Wijaya Adiputra as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 19.

According to him, even many pilgrims sleep outside the tent, which is very bad for health, especially for the elderly. He asked the Ministry of Religion to conduct a massive evaluation to fix the problem.

The issue of tents under capacity not only hit regular pilgrims, but also Hajj pilgrims plus. Even worse in Maktab 111 places for Hajj pilgrims plus live, he said, tents with a capacity of 80 people had to be occupied by 1,200 people.

In addition, the DPR's Hajjwas Team also found that there were pilgrims who were expelled from the tent, due to the placement of tents for Indonesian pilgrims that were not in accordance with the predetermined law. They were forced to leave the tent because their rights could not be fulfilled due to the wrong place.

"It should not have happened if the Ministry of Religion could have anticipated it from the start," he asserted.

One of the pilgrims, Dedi Karyadi, from the 49th flying group from Bogor City, revealed that the tents provided by the Saudi Arabian government were only 10x12 meters for 160 worshipers.

"This means that the quota per person in the tent is only 0.8 meters. Our space for movement does not have 1 meter. Even that still cannot accommodate the congregation because the tents are very narrow," he said.

He said, the congregation was forced to sleep outside the tent. They also take turns every two hours to take turns sleeping in the tent.
