350 Cows In Padang Are Not Eligible For Eid Al-Adha Sacrifice

The Animal Health Team (Keswan) of the Department of Agriculture, Padang City Government (Pemkot) found 350 cows that were not feasible for Eid al-Adha 2024. This was known after an examination of 60 cow shelters was carried out.

According to the Head of the Padang City Agriculture Service, Yoice Yuliani, there are 3,000 cows for the sacrifice that will be examined by the Keswan Team until D-1 Eid Al-Adha 2024.

"As of yesterday, the number of cows for sacrificial animals that have been examined has reached 2,650. Of that number, 350 of them were found unfit to be sacrificial animals," he said, Friday, June 14.

Yoice explained that 350 cows that were declared unfit to be used as sacrificial animals were because they were not healthy, had toothache, so they were not old enough.

"So to the cow being examined, what is feasible will be given or a penning on the part of the rope on the head of the cow. So for the cow that does not have a penning, it means that it is not feasible to be a sacrificial animal," he explained.

Yoice targets the examination of sacrificial animals in the Padang area to be completed by D-1 Eid al-Adha. So far, the Keswan Team has not found any serious illness experienced by cattle, including verbal and nail disease (PMK).

Sacrificial animals must meet a number of requirements, especially regarding health. Cows imported from outside the region are required to obtain a health certificate from the Keswan area of origin.

"In Padang, there are quite a lot of cows from outside the area that enter for the moment of sacrifice. Cows that come to Padang and are sold for sacrificial animals, the condition is that they must have an official letter from Keswan that the cows are healthy," he said.

One of the cattle traders in Padang, Irvan said that he was a cattle trader to fill the needs of the community who carried out the sacrificial worship.

"I bought a cow from Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). His condition is healthy and he deserves to sell it for sacrificial animals because he has also been examined by the Padang Ministry of Agriculture," he explained.

On the one hand, Irvan conveyed that the 2024 Eid al-Adha had problems with cattle traders, namely the decrease in purchasing power for cattle.

"I estimate the purchase power decline to reach 15%," he said.

He admitted that there were various problems that caused the decline in the purchasing power of sacrificial animals this year, one of which had an effect on the impact of natural disasters.
