Marc-Andre Ter Stegen Remains Loyal Even Though Must Be A Substitute Goalkeeper In The German National Team For Euro 2024
JAKARTA - Must again be a substitute for Manuel Neuer in the German national team for Euro 2024, Marc-Andre ter Stegen insists that he will not create tensions within the team. Ter Stegen, who felt "very disappointed" by the situation, expressed his commitment to continue to support the team in efforts to achieve success in the tournament.
After Manuel Neuer's ski injury in December, Marc-Andre ter Stegen was again called up to fill the position. Despite having made an outstanding performance with FC Barcelona in the past year and a half, Ter Stegen now has to be willing to return to second behind Neuer, who has been designated the main goalkeeper by Germany's coach Julian Nagelsmann.
In a press conference for the German national team in Herzogenaurach, Ter Stegen stated, "This is not a pleasant situation." Although Ter Stegen consistently got a better assessment in ranking goalkeepers by several parties, Nagelsmann's decision to set Neuer as the main goalkeeper was still being carried out. Ter Stegen showed his professional stance by saying, "The coach has made the decision, I accept it, even though I don't agree."

In the interview, Neuer also showed understanding of Ter Stegen's disappointment. "This is a common problem in goalkeeper position," he said. "No coach has let two goalkeepers play. Marc knows the situation. I have to admit, this is indeed difficult, because he is also a world-class goalkeeper who has shown good performance."
Although Ter Stegen was disappointed with the situation, he insisted that there was no dissatisfaction with Neuer. "It's not about Manu, we have the same position. Personally, it has nothing to do with him either. We have a good relationship. Even though we compete for the same goal, that doesn't mean I don't like him," he said.
With the professional attitude shown by Ter Stegen, it is hoped that the German national team can stay focused and unite in their struggle for success at Euro 2024.
