A Total Of 1.06 Million Foreign Tourists Entered Indonesia In April 2024, Dominated By Malaysia

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that foreign tourist visits reached 1,066,958 during April 2024.

This figure increased by 2.41 percent month to month (mtm) when compared to March 2024, and also increased 23.23 percent on an annual basis or year on year (yoy) when compared to April 2023.

Acting (Plt) Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that the number of visits was divided into two, namely 887,302 visits through the main door, and 179,656 visits through the border gate.

"Thus, the total number of foreign tourist visits is 1,066,958 visits," Amalia said at a press conference, Monday, June 3.

As for cumulatively, the total number of foreign tourist visits from January to April 2024 reached 4,098,714 visits or an increase of 24.85 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Furthermore, the increase in this visit was mainly recorded at the airport gates of Ngurah Rai-Bali and Soekarno Hatta-Banten, an increase of 28.92 percent and 38.31 percent, respectively.

Amalia said that the visit of foreign tourists until April 2024 was the highest foreign tourist visit for the last 4 years or since 2020.

Tourists visiting Indonesia during April 2024 were dominated by foreign tourists from Malaysia, reaching 170.64 thousand visits or 15.99 percent, Australia as many as 127.07 thousand visits or 11.99 percent, China as many as 85.96 thousand visits or 8.06 percent and Singapore as many as 81.23 thousand visits or 7.61 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of national tourist trips (tourists) in April 2024 reached 756.02 thousand trips, an increase of 9.28 percent compared to March 2024 (mtm) and an increase of 33.13 percent compared to the same month in the previous year (yoy).

"Malaysia became the main destination country for national tourists with the most interest in April 2024 (33.1 percent) followed by Singapore (16.33 percent), Saudi Arabia (10.65 percent), and China (5.44 percent)," he explained.
