JAKARTA - The National Legal Development Agency of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (BPHN Kemenkumham) officially opened the Paralegal Academy activity, Tuesday night, May 28, at the Auditorium Building of the Legal and Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of Law and Human Rights, Depok, West Java.
This event also marked the start of the 2024 Paralegal Justice Award (PJA), a series of activities aimed at providing legal knowledge briefing and appreciating village/lurah heads who have played an active role in resolving cases and providing legal assistance to the community in a non-ligatory and inclusive manner.
Head of BPHN, Widodo Ekatjahjana highlighted the important role of legalists in resolving disputes in the community, empowering the law, and supporting advocates in providing legal assistance to the community. Uniquely, so far, the role of legalists has often been indirectly played by village heads / kelurahan in the regions.
Paralegal can provide services and legal assistance as a manifestation of the presence of a state of law in the midst of society. Village/Lurah heads not only have the capacity as formal leaders who carry out government administrative affairs, but also become central figures who are obeyed by their citizens and protectors who can protect village interests in resolving various problems or conflicts that occur," said Widodo, in an official statement received on Sunday, June 2.
Widodo added that through PJA, BPHN wants to give awards to village heads/sub-district heads who have succeeded in creating their village environments that are orderly, safe, and their people are aware of the law.
