Different Democrats' Responses To Support To Bobby Nasution And Edy Rahmayadi In The North Sumatra Gubernatorial Election

JAKARTA - Former Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, took a Bacalon registration form to the Democrats for the 2024 North Sumatra gubernatorial election. Edy has taken forms from four political parties, namely Democrats, PDIP, PKB and PKS.

Head of BPOKK of the Democratic Party, Herman Khaeron, appreciated Edy Rahmayadi for intending to run from this party bearing the Mercy Star symbol. Moreover, Edy has experience in leading North Sumatra.

"Mr. Edy Rahmayadi is also listed in the Democrats. Yes, once again, in this screening process, everyone has a chance, Mr. Edy Rahmayadi is also incumbent, meaning that he has a track record as well, it's good that five years can lead," said Herman, Wednesday, May 29.

Even so, according to Herman, the decision regarding the cagub that will be supported by the Democrats in the North Sumatra Pilgub depends on the decision of the coalition partners. Because the Democrats cannot carry the cagub and cawagub themselves.

"Yes, who will be determined by the coalition. Once again by the coalition. Because the Democrats cannot carry it alone. If we can carry out the level of certainty ourselves, it may be 70 percent that way, but because we can't carry it. We also really depend on other coalition parties," explained Herman.

"Other coalition parties also depend on the candidate. Who will the candidate we agree to and agree to together," he added.

Regarding the deadline for determining the cagub and cawagub for the 2024 North Sumatra Pilkada, Herman has not been able to confirm.

"It will run with time, it will definitely be conveyed to the media," said Herman.

However, the Democrats showed a different response to the Mayor of Medan, Bobby Nasution, who wanted to run as a governor of North Sumatra in 2024. Herman was actually optimistic that Bobby would win despite fighting PDIP politician Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.

It is known that the former governor of DKI Jakarta is being eyed by a bull party to advance in the North Sumatra gubernatorial election.

"In contestation, if you are not optimistic about winning, don't contest. We are optimistic that Bobby will win the fight later," said Herman.

Herman assessed that Bobby had the advantage to lead North Sumatra. Moreover, President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) son-in-law is considered successful in building the city of Medan.

"First, there is the experience of winning in the Medan Pilkada, meaning that he can become the Mayor of Medan. Then as long as he is the Mayor of Medan, it's also good, the way to lead is also liked, young people are even excited there, very happy now with the development situation in Medan City," explained Herman.

"I think this can be developed. This means that if Medan is the Center of Gravity of North Sumatra, it can be developed to other areas. Bobby is originally a North Sumatran person, explained Nasution," he added.

However, Herman did not mention whether Bobby Nasution's name had been discussed with the coalition political parties or not. Especially the Advanced Indonesia Coalition (KIM).
