Google Supports Expansion Of Cek Fakta.com Members To Fight Hoax Content

After the 2024 General Election, Cek Fakta.com expands its membership to reach 100 media as of April 2024. This effort is expected to improve communication and collaboration in ensuring accurate information delivery to the public.

In the Indonesia Fact Checking Summit (IFCS) some time ago, it was revealed that the challenges ahead are not only disinformation, but also Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as deepfake audio and videos that often confuse the public.

"The media's interest in conveying content is very high responsibility, so this year we are perfecting the membership concept so that more and more parties can contribute to producing and distributing Cekfacta.com content," said Adi Marsela, Cek Fakta.com Coordinator, quoted Monday, May 27.

Adi also appreciated the enthusiasm of media colleagues throughout Indonesia, because support from many parties was needed to prevent the development of hoax news.

Since its launch in 2018, CekFakta.com has 22 initial members who then increased to 25 media in 2023. Now with the concept of new membership acceptance, there are 75 media that have passed verification as of April 2024.

Thanks to the FGD series carried out by AJI and Mafindo in 10 cities in Indonesia, Cek Fakta.com also collaborated with more than 50 non media institutions as partners in forwarding Cekfacta.com content to civil society.

Cooperation with CekFakta.com is one of the important steps taken by the GNI in fighting misinformation and improving the quality of the news ecosystem in Indonesia.

GNI is consistently working with CekFakta.com to verify information and flag misleading content on the Google platform. We fully support the growth of this CekFakta.com ecosystem partner and hope to help improve people's ability to identify hoaxes as well as sort out reliable news," concluded Yos Kusuma, News Partner Manager of Google Indonesia.
