Anticipating The Cold Lahar Marapi, Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture Urges The Development Of Sabo To Prevent Follow-Up Floods

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy emphasized the construction of a savo dam around Mount Marapi located in Agam Regency and Tanah Regency, West Sumatra (West Sumatra).

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy urged immediate action to prevent further flooding.

"For West Sumatra, one of the most urgent to build is the dam buffer," he said in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, Tuesday, May 21, which was confiscated by Antara.

This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture on the sidelines of his visit to Tanah Datar Regency to review and hand over a number of assistance to survivors of cold lava floods.

In fact, he said, President Jokowi had instructed the eight Sabo dams around Mount Marapi to be immediately built to prevent further hydrometeorological disasters.

For the construction of the savbo dam, the former Chancellor of Muhammadiyah University Malang for three periods said he would use the budget from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and was built by the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

By building a savbo dam in the two districts, it is hoped that the volcanic materials of Mount Marapi will not go directly to community settlements which can cause cold lava floods.

In addition to being able to prevent cold lava floods, piles of volcanic material deposited in Sabo dam can also be a source of the economy for the community. Because, the volcanic material is economic-valued.

On that occasion, the Minister of Education and Culture of the Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla era also handed over assistance from President Joko Widodo to survivors of cold lava floods in refugee camps.

He also apologized from the head of state who initially planned to visit flood victims in Tanah Datar, but was canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions so that they were represented to the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
