Only Once Tap, Google Updates Password Lock Login System On Android 15
JAKARTA In the Google I/O 2024 event, precisely in the Best Password and Practice Session of Identity, Google announced that they will update the passkey entry system or password key to one tap. A new view of the passkey will combine two systems into one screen, namely account selection and incoming orders with biometric authentication. These two combined features will be added to Android 15 and Wear OS 5. Previously, users will see the account confirmation page first. After confirming that the account used to store the password key is correct, users can use biometric authentication such as fingerprint or face. However, in the latest version of the Credential Manager, users will see two views in one screen. The top will display account confirmation and at the bottom the user can directly use biometric authentication in one tap.

By combining two processes in one screen, the password key sheet becomes slightly higher than before, but does not cover the entire screen. The user will continue to see the view of the Sign In page on the back of the password key. Apart from Android 15, the Creditial Manager update will also be added to Wear OS 5 in the platform's quarterly release. Just like the policy in the Android 15 version, the Wear OS update will make it easier to log in using the password key. Apart from logging in with the password key, users can also choose the password option or Sign in with Google Account. For the current update, the password key version on Wear OS still requires a companion application on the phone, but it will probably be removed in the future.
