Honda Pamer Trucks In The 8th Class Hydrogen Fuel Cell Concept At ACT Expo 2024

JAKARTA - Honda will showcase the Class 8 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Concept Truck at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo exhibition on May 20. This truck marks the start of a new project aimed at the future production of fuel cell-powered products for the North American market.

Honda, quoted from the company's release, May 20, is looking for new business collaborations as the company expands its hydrogen business to achieve global goals without environmental impacts, including achieving carbon neutrality for all company products and activities by 2050.

Commercial vehicles, including Class 8 trucks, where fuel cells offer the best unemissioned replacements for existing diesel applications, are an important part of Honda's extensive hydrogen business strategy, said Ryan Harty, assistant vice president, sustainability & business development, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

Honda is actively looking for business and customer collaboration to help bring this hydrogen fuel cell solution to the market here in North America.

The Honda Class 8 concept truck, which operates powered by Honda's three new fuel cell (FC) systems, is now mass-produced at the Fuel Cell System Manufacturing, LLC (FCSM), a joint venture production facility with General Motors (GM) in Brownstown, Michigan. This new FC system is key to Honda's hydrogen business strategy. Developed together by Honda and GM over the past decade, the FC Honda system increased performance and doubled endurance while reducing costs by up to two-thirds compared to previous generation systems.

Honda has identified four core domains for the initial use of its new fuel cell system: fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV), commercial fuel cell vehicles, stationary power plants, and construction equipment.

In addition to the Honda exhibition at the ACT Expo, Harty will give a major presentation at the Ultra Clean Heavy-Vehicle Vehicle Summit on May 22 to provide further details on the Honda hydrogen plan.
