Police Station In Malaysia Attacked By Affiliated Man Jemaah Islamiyah, 2 Officers Died Shot In The Finger And Shoulder

JAKARTA - The police station in Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru, Malaysia, was attacked by a masked man affiliated with Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) on Friday, May 17 in the morning. Two policemen were shot dead in the attack.

Malaysian Police Inspector General Razarudin Husain explained that initially a police officer received a young couple aged 21 and 22 who wanted to file a sexual harassment report two years ago at the police station at 02.30 in the morning local time.

At the same time, an intruder wearing a mask and armed with a machete entered the police station using a motorbike. The police who approached him were stabbed.

The suspect then took the victim's weapon. At the same time, two mobile patrol cars (MPV) of the police had just finished duty to return to the police station," Husain told The Star, Friday, May 17.

One of the officers was shot in the cheek until the bullet penetrated his head, while another was shot in the shoulders and waist.

The 34-year-old masked forward was later killed in a shootout at the police station.

The investigation was quickly carried out by raiding the suspect's house. From that activity, five members of the suspect's family aged between 19 and 62 were arrested.

Husein said they were suspected of being members of JI. This was known from the discovery of a number of items related to the group at the suspect's house.

According to Husein, the temporary suspicion of the police station attack was aimed at stealing the officers' weapons.

"A young couple who was previously at the police station to submit a report [also arrested]," said Husain.

He added that the two of them reported the incident which allegedly occurred two years ago.
