NTT DATA Establishes A New Environmentally Friendly Data Center
JAKARTA NTT DATA, a digital infrastructure provider, is building a new data center in Jakarta. The building, called the Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center (JKT2A), is planned to be completed in 2026. JKT2A is part of the company's investment in data center development in various major markets. This investment worth more than 10 billion US dollars (Rp 160 trillion) was deployed to meet the needs of hyperscalers. Doug Adam, CEO and President of the NTT DATA Global Data Center, said that his company is the third largest data center provider globally. Therefore, to meet market demand, NTT DATA built JKT2A. "The launch of JKT2A, which has just confirmed the leadership position of NTT in Indonesia, especially with the growth of our global data center," said Adam. "We are ready to provide a flexible facility design so that clients can achieve their business goals." The construction of JKT2A is also inseparable from the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). At a press conference held on Wednesday, May 15, Adam explained that the data center market is indeed being driven by AI so that NTT DATA provides its services. The company uses AI to strengthen power per rack to produce a much larger dataset. NTT DATA also claims that, "The strong design of our data center can meet the requirements for the current and future AI implementation." Although the application of AI is very important at this time, NTT DATA states that the development and use of JKT2A will be in line with the achievement of their sustainability, namely the target of net emissions and the use of 100 percent renewable energy in 2030. Global Data Director of the NTT DATA Indonesia Data Center Yasuhiro Kajiki explained that the JKT2A development design has been adjusted to sustainability efforts such as using recycled air conditioning to reduce wastewater.

The latest data center also uses UPS with Lithium-Ion Battery to keep the cooling system durable, obtain Reusable Energy Certificate (REC), as well as obtain leadership certification in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). In addition, NTT DATA also utilizes AI to achieve net emissions in the next few years. As explained by Adam, AI assists maintenance and training optimization so that data centers can use less airflow. "There are many different AI components that play a role in how we manage the data center and we engage its growth period. We are getting better in this regard and implement more each year," explains Adam. JKT2A is located at the center of Jakarta and its distance is about 20 kilometers from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. With a capacity of 12MW critical IT loads, these facilities have air conditioning systems, high-level security, and electrical resources as an alternative.
