Subaru Will Present Three Electric SUVs With Toyota Assistance, Here's The Reason
JAKARTA - The car electrification world is indeed busy, but Japanese manufacturers like Subaru seem to be lagging behind competitors from China and America, especially Tesla. However, Subaru has big plans to catch up with this.
Subaru with the six star logo only has one EV model available on the market, namely Solterra based on Toyota bZ4x.
After launching the model in 2022, this brand seems to want to bring more EVs in the future.
Reporting from InsideEVs, Tuesday, May 14, Subaru plans to present the three latest electric SUVs developed by utilizing partnerships with Toyota.
Subaru CEO Atsushi Osaki said it was too risky for companies to develop EVs alone in the midst of an erratic electrification market and cooperation with Toyota could reduce this.
"We have held talks with Toyota and agreed that it is better to reduce risks through joint development," Osaki said.

This is a reasonable move given that the Subaru brand is not as big as other manufacturers such as Toyota or Volkswagen which have very high costs and resources.
The cost of research and development needed to create electric vehicles from scratch is huge, as well as the investment needed to reconfigure the factory that previously made vehicles with internal combustion.
In order to save on potentially swelling expenses, Subaru will rely on technology from Toyota. However, they also insist that they do not depend on their partners forever.
The Tokyo-based manufacturer plans to launch its own four EVs by 2028. In addition, they are preparing a hybrid version of the existing product lineup, such as Crosstrack and Forester.
