Grateful For Indonesia To Be A Member Of OECD, Jokowi: Give Many Benefits

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that Indonesia's entry as a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) or Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, provides many concrete benefits to become a developed country.

The head of state said the government gave great appreciation for Indonesia's acceptance as a member of the OECD.

"This OECD is very important, because this organization is for developed countries," said President Jokowi during a working visit in order to review the Konawe Regency Regional Hospital (RSUD), Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), Tuesday, May 14, which was confiscated by Antara. President Jokowi hopes that Indonesia's entry as an OECD member can make it easier for Indonesia to access several things related to investment, as well as international institutions.

"We hope that by going there, it will be easy to access investment, easy to access international institutions that are beneficial to our society," said President Jokowi.

He also revealed that Indonesia's entry as an OECD member will provide concrete benefits, especially so that Indonesia is not trapped into a middle income trap or middle income trap.

"And we can jump into a developed country because there are so many rules that we have to follow and this will discipline us to be able to enter our goal to become a developed country," said President Jokowi.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that 38 member countries from OECD had approved Indonesia to enter into one of the members of the organization.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga also said that his party had accepted a roadmap for Indonesia joining OECD in a meeting with OECD members in Paris last week.
