7 Students In Yogyakarta Arrested Allegedly Provocation Of Other Schools

YOGYAKARTA - The police arrested seven high school (SMA) students in Yogyakarta City on suspicion of provoking other school students by carrying out anarchic actions during the graduation convoy.

Yogyakarta Police Chief Kombes Aditya Surya Dharma, said they threw firecrackers and stones at a school in Umbulharjo District, Yogyakarta City.

"Doing a provocation by shaking the school fence throwing firecrackers and a number of stones," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 13.

Receiving a report from the school security officer, the police then went to the location and dispersed the action.

"We disbanded even though there was one person who had gone viral because he fell into the river. We brought in an interrogation, he pushed from the residents and then he hid below, but there were no broken bones or anything," he said.

Aditya ensured that the provocation had not triggered a brawl or retaliation from other students.

"We haven't had a chance to get involved in a brawl, we can neutralize it. We did security and we disbanded it. We have secured some of them," he said.

Of the seven students examined at the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters, the police secured five motorbikes, five firecracker shells, a used gear, batons, spray paint, and dangerous drugs such as "yarindo" pills.

Yogyakarta Police, said Aditya, will call the school and the parents of each student.

"We communicated with schools, parents, and the head of the local environment," he said.

Aditya appealed to all schools in the city of Yogyakarta to keep their students from getting involved in actions that could trigger chaos during the graduation celebration period.

"We also hold cyber patrols and openly anticipate counter actions from other schools," said Aditya.
