Coway Becomes The First Korean Water Purifier Brand With Halal BPJPH Certificate In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Coway, South Korea's number one air and air purification company, officially has a halal certificate from BPJPH with the number ID00410016391850324 for 5 types of water purifier Coway products available in Indonesia; Cinnamon (P-6320R), Core (CHP-671R), Ombak (CHP-7310R), Neo Plus (CHP-264L), and Villaem II (CHP-18AR) products. This certification, which was published on March 28, 2024, marks the company's commitment to providing purity in every drop of drinking water quality from the filtration of water purifier Coway.

According to Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee (JPH), halal certificate is an acknowledgment of the halalness of a product issued by BPJPH (Halal Product Guarantee Management Agency) based on a written halal fatwa from MUI.

The halalness of a product does not only include food, beverages, medicines, cosmetics, but also household appliances, including all products worn by people. With the release of this certificate, the water purifier Coway which consists of various components has guaranteed halalness, including pipe components to filtering systems that will be consumed.

We support Coway's move to provide assurances on the quality and halalness of their products. It should be noted that contamination from facilities or the environment can lead to the entry of illicit materials into the product. In the halal audit process, we have conducted a check-up test at the Coway factory located in Yugu, South Korea and all levels of water purifier Coway manufacturing have met the qualifications set by the halal criteria," said MUI Director, Ir. Muti Arintawati, M.Si, in a statement, quoted Monday, May 13.

Coway has become a market leader in the field of water purification in neighboring countries, including Malaysia, by pocketing halal guarantees from the Malaysian Islamic Progress Position (JAKIM). Following this success, since expanding to Indonesia in 2019, Coway has consistently introduced a water purifier advantage with a gradual filtration system, allowing Indonesians to drink water sourced from groundwater.

The use of water purifiers is the best solution for those who want to ensure drinking water is free from contamination and can reduce nanoparticles with more than 99% efficiency based on Intertek validation in eliminating microplastics. The complete variant of the water purifier Coway has also been verified and available sold in Indonesia.

Coway conveyed its goal to establish an understanding of the importance of meeting drinking water intake, not only in terms of quantity, but also in terms of quality. Water purifier Coway has gone through a certification test from the Water Quality Association (WQA) and obtained the Gold Seal Mark, indicating that all components through water purifiers are made of very safe materials.

Coway's R&D Center, a collaboration with Seoul National University, is also a testing laboratory recognized by WQA. With the highest number of researchers in Asia, more than 20,000 water samples from 40 countries have been researched to develop a water purifier filter that fits all types of water.

In addition to focusing on product innovation for better water and air quality, Coway is also active in various educational activities and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) roadshows. In the month of Ramadan 2024, the company successfully carried out initiatives at several mosque points located in Jakarta, Bogor to Tangerang. Air purifier Coway is donated to be enjoyed by visitors to the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta and the Grand Mosque in Al-Azhar Bintaro, Tangerang. Not only that, Coway also installed water purifiers for the Jami Bintaro Jaya Mosque, Tangerang, and the Dzunnuraini Mosque in Bogor.

Coway facilitates friendship with mosque administrators while conveying information about the importance of accessing clean water and sustainability practices. The company shares iftar parcels and invites mosque visitors to get used to carrying their own brewers or drinking water bottles. In this way, in addition to air comfort from the air purifier Coway, the public can take advantage of the purity of water filtration results from the water purifier Coway filtration, as well as help reduce the use of bottled drinking water and overcome the problem of plastic waste which is a global issue.

Tony Cho, President Director of Coway Indonesia, conveyed the Coway Indonesia mission in 2024.

"The year 2024 marks the fifth year of Coway's journey in Indonesia and we will continue to provide innovation through quality products. Hopefully this BPJPH halal certification can increase trust, especially Muslim customers, in Coway's dedication to improving the quality of life of the community," explained Tony.
