Limit On Passenger Goods From LN 500 US Dollars, This Is A Calculation Of Import Duty If The Value Is More

JAKARTA - The default value limit for passengers from abroad who are not subject to import duties is 500 US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 8,012,500 (assuming an exchange rate of Rp. 16,025 per US dollar).

However, if private luggage is more than that value, it will be subject to an import fee of 10 percent.

The amount refers to the Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 203 of 2017 concerning Provisions for Export and Import of Goods Bringed by Passengers and Crew of Transportation Facilities.

Then, what is the tax calculation if the value of luggage is more than 500 US dollars?

Head of the Soekarno-Hatta Type C Customs Main Service Office Gatot Sugeng Wibowo said, if passengers from abroad bring goods of more than 500 US dollars, then the difference will be subject to import duties.

For example, said Gatot, passengers from abroad carry two pairs of shoes with a value of up to 1,000 US dollars.

The total passenger's luggage will be reduced by 500 US dollars as a value free of import duties.

"So if passengers carry goods, they will be totaled first, for example 1,000 US dollars. The current exchange rate is IDR 16,000, then it will be reduced by 500 US dollars first. Then, 500 US dollars (the difference) multiply the exchange rate. Then multiplied by import duties. If the personal use is 10 percent," he said at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Monday, May 6.

Gatot emphasized that import duties are not imposed based on the amount of goods, but based on the total value of passenger luggage.

"10 percent flat from the total. From the total after being cut by 500 US dollars, it was only charged 10 percent," he explained.

Meanwhile, continued Gatot, for Indonesian Migrant Workers or PMI, the value of shipments that are exempted from import duties reaches 1,500 US dollars per year.

However, with a note it must be registered with BP2MI.

To ensure the truth of PMI's shipments, PMIs who send these goods must have been recorded on SISKOP2MI or at the Indonesian Citizen Care Portal and this data is integrated into a siatum between BP2MI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance.

"For PMI, those registered with BP2MI have a maximum of 1,500 US dollars. For PMIs that are not registered are 500 US dollars," he explained.
