Police Secure Marijuana Worth IDR 200 Million From Papua New Guinea In Sorsel, Southwest Papua, 4 Suspects Arrested

PAPUA - The South Sorong (South Sorong) resort police (Polres) in Southwest Papua arrested four marijuana-type narcotics dealers in two different places in Sorong City.

From this activity, Rp200 million worth of marijuana imported from Papua New Guinea was secured.

"The arrest was based on the police report number LP/A/Manures.4.2./2024/SPKT Sors Police Narcotics Unit dated March 30, 2024," said Sorsel Police Chief AKBP Gleen Rooi Molle in Teminabuan, Southwest Papua, Friday, May 3, confiscated by Antara.

Based on the examination, the possession of this marijuana began with RM who was contacted to take marijuana belonging to the suspect with the initials C at Sorong City Port on March 30, 2024 afternoon.

"The suspect RM admitted that at 21.00 WIT RM's brother was contacted by brother C, to meet a drug dealer at the Kiosk Complex and you Malanu. Brother RM invited VM to join together to take the marijuana type narcotics," said Gleen.

"The suspect RM came to the port and met a drug dealer. But the suspect RM was conveyed to wait at night to carry out the narcotics transaction," he continued.

After drug transactions with dealers were carried out, on the way home, the suspects RM and VM were secured by the Sorsel Police Narcotics Unit. From the hands of the two, evidence of 20 clear plastic packages containing marijuana was secured.

"Weight evidence from the hands of RM of 415.43 grams of marijuana," he said.

Separately, the Sorsel Police arrested suspects YM and AR for possession of marijuana.

Of the suspects YM and AR, 41 clear plastic packs of marijuana with a total net weight of 342.39 grams were secured.

The arrest began with the suspect YM who was contacted by the suspect IP to receive marijuana-type narcotics that arrived in Sorong City on March 30, 2024.

The marijuana in one carton was delivered by BS at the suspect YM's house on Jalan Cilosari, Kampung Baru, Sorong City.

"Suspect YM admitted that he made the marijuana-type narcotics into a package ready to sell as many as 11 packages worth Rp. 500,000 have been sold for two packs for Rp. 1 million and three packs for Rp. 500,000.

Of the total, he said, if it is accumulated in the form of money, the price of the marijuana type that was successfully secured is worth Rp. 200 million.

Meanwhile, Head of Drugs Ipda Thomas Sabon said that the circulation of marijuana for the Sorsel area targets school-age children and students.

"Eradication must be carried out before the illicit goods are circulated in the community," said Thomas.
