PSSI Chairman Throws Out Shin Tae-yong's Contract Extension Code
PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir was present to witness the U-23 Indonesian national team's victory over Jordan U-23 in the last match of Group A of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. He visited the changing room after the match and gave the code for Shin Tae-yong's contract extension.
After winning 4-1 over Jordan U-23, Erick Thohir immediately visited the Garuda Muda dressing room at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Sunday, April 21, 2024. The moment of togetherness was uploaded on Erick Thohir's social media.
In a short video, Erick Thohir shares moments on the field. He also showed the situation in the dressing room while congratulating the players and officials.

It was during this moment of togetherness that the former Inter Milan president alluded to the continuation of the coach's contract which was welcomed by the players.
"So does the coach continue to be with us?" asked Erick Thohir.
Instantly the players greeted the boisterous and answered with a uniform sentence, "Yeaahh."
Seeing the enthusiasm of the players' answers, Erick Thohir immediately gave a warm hug as a form of appreciation to Shin Tae-yong. The South Korean coach also greeted him with a happy smile.
This is clearly good news for Shin Tae-yong who has indeed exceeded the target given by PSSI. Previously, he succeeded in bringing the national team to qualify for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup which was also on the federation target.
Now, he is also bringing the U-23 Indonesian national team to the knockout round, aka the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup quarter-finals.
The door to a contract extension that is wide open in front of our eyes does not actually make Shin happy. Wisely, he said he would consider the best answer after discussing with PSSI.
"We are thinking about it. That is something that PSSI and I need to consider carefully," said Shin Tae-yong when giving a statement after the match against Jordan U-23.
Actually, Shin Tae-yong's contract ended in December 2023. However, he was extended until June 2024 to support the team in the 2023 Asian Cup and 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
The two events then became a moment for the federation's assessment of Shin Tae-yong's performance in the future.
