Polish Police Arrest Russian Spy Suspect In Connection With President Zelensky's Murder Plan

JAKARTA - Polish police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in Russia's plot to kill Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Polish prosecutors said the suspect, Pawel K, was a Polish citizen. He is accused of planning to provide airport security information to Russian agents, reported The National News April 19.

The man is suspected of having contact with Russian people who were directly involved in the war in Ukraine, is expected to provide detailed information about Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport in southeastern Poland, near the border with Ukraine, which is the gateway to the military and international humanitarian supplies to Ukraine.

Authorities said Pawel K. was assigned to collect information about security at Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport, quoted by the BBC.

The investigation was carried out through close coordination between Polish and Ukrainian authorities, with important evidence in this case obtained from the Ukrainian side, prosecutors said.

President Zelensky frequently uses Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport on international trips, as he seeks to garner support for his country more than two years after Russia's massive invasion.

In addition, the airport also serves world leaders to politicians traveling in and out of Ukraine.

Located 100 km from the border in Medyka, the airport, which is under US troop control, has been used as the main center of Western military aid to Ukraine.

The suspect, who was arrested in Poland on Wednesday, faces eight years in prison if found guilty under espionage laws.

President Zelensky said in an interview with The Sun last year his country's intelligence agency had thwarted at least five or six plans to kill him.

Last year, Polish authorities said they arrested a group of foreigners on suspicion of being Russian spies. They reportedly installed dozens of cameras, including some around Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport.
