WAMI Will Collect Royalties For South Korean Songs Used In Indonesia
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Music Wahana (WAMI) is collaborating with the Korean Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) to collect royalties from South Korean songs played in Indonesia.
The collaboration is based on WAMI and KOMCA membership under the auspices of the International Confederation of Writers and Composters (CISAC), a network of leading author associations in the world.
This is known based on the agreement certificate made by KOMCA and uploaded by WAMI through an official Instagram account.
Meanwhile, the royalties that WAMI will collect include performing rights and mechanical rights.
"Under the framework of CISAC and based on the Mutual Return Representation Agreement between KOMCA and WAMI which was created for performing rights in July 2012, and made for mechanical rights in January 2017, KOMCA has granted WAMI exclusive rights to license KOMCA's performance rights and mechanical rigjts in Indonesia," reads the agreement certificate, Friday, April 5.

"This includes the right for WAMI to collect relevant royalties on behalf of KOMCA, meaning that the collection of music copyright royalties through WAMI ultimately benefits KOMCA members in Korea," he continued.
The certificate serves to state that anyone must obtain permission from WAMI to use KOMCA's music repertoire in Indonesian territory.
"In this context, KOMCA respectfully asks you to consult WAMI before using Korean music and get the rights needed."
The certificate also states that there will be further action in the event of a violation committed against KOMCA's music repertoire.
"We next inform you that you may be subject to further action under local law, if you constantly fail to obtain a relevant copyright license."
In this statement, it is not explained what songs are KOMCA's repertoire of music.
VOI tried to contact WAMI to get more information. However, until this article was written, no response was received.
