Allegations Of Sexual Harassment By Unpatti Lecturers To Students, The Chancellor Ensures That The Investigation Does Not Come Into The Wind

AMBON - Chancellor of Pattimura University (Unpatti) Fredy Leiwakabessy ensured that the investigation process of sexual harassment cases committed by unscrupulous lecturers to students was in accordance with the applicable mechanism."The sexual harassment by unscrupulous lecturers has been officially reported by the victim to the police, then they will be escorted and an investigation will be carried out by the Unpatti campus," he said in Ambon, Antara, Friday, April 5.The task force prevention team for handling sexual violence will follow up on the examination of the lecturer.The Chancellor has also ordered all Vice Chancellors and the sexual violence handling task force to immediately take quick action to deal with this problem so that this problem does not spread anywhere."The process of handling this problem will certainly be carried out as soon as possible in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," he said.Asked about the sanctions that will be given to the perpetrators, the chancellor said that according to existing regulations. It could be light, moderate to severe sanctions."Currently, the examination process has only been running for two days, the task force team has summoned the perpetrators, victims and witnesses and we are still waiting for the results of the examination," he said.He admitted that the responsibility as Chancellor is to maintain institutions and protect all government facilities."We will follow up on what is being demanded. We hope that you will also continue to oversee the dam process, especially taking care of all facilities on campus," he said.The Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PMII) held a demonstration demanding the Chancellor to resolve cases of sexual harassment by unscrupulous lecturers against a student.A demonstration was carried out at the Pattimura University Ambon Rector's courtyard, the masses demanded the Chancellor to immediately resolve the sexual harassment case, carrying a banner that reads PMII Sues Expel Sexual Predators on campus.The demonstrators conveyed four points of charges that had been submitted to the Chancellor, namely, taking firm action against perpetrators of sexual harassment by immediately dismissing the perpetrators of sexual harassment dishonorably.
Throwing out sexual offenders on the Unpatti campus for tarnishing the number one campus in Maluku, arresting and imprisoning perpetrators of sexual harassment in accordance with Law Number 12 of 2022 article 293 of the Criminal Procedure Code and protecting the rights of victims on campus.
