List 8 Indonesian Athletes Who Have Locked Tickets For The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA A total of eight Indonesian athletes have confirmed themselves to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The latest ticket to Paris was secured by Indonesia's flagship lifter, Eko Yuli Irawan. He got a ticket after winning a silver medal in the snatch in the men's 61 kg Weightlifting World Championship or IWF World Cup 2024 in Phuket, Thailand, Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Eko will appear in the Olympics for the fifth time, aka quintrick. He previously defended Indonesia in four consecutive Olympics since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

At that time, he managed to bring home the bronze medal, the medal he managed to get back four years later while appearing at the 2012 London Olympics.

Then, when participating in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the 34-year-old lifter received a silver medal. He maintained a similar medal in his latest appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"Alhamdulillah, I am grateful that God Almighty is still given the opportunity to join the Olympics again for the fifth time," said Eko Yuli.

Eko Yuli Irawan now holds the title as an Indonesian athlete with the most medal collections, which is four copies. Following in the second position is the female weightlifter, Raema Lisa Rumbewas, who has three medals.

Qualifying for Paris made Eko make history as an Indonesian athlete with the most appearances at the Olympics. Paris will be Eko's fifth chance to pursue the gold medal he has dreamed of for a long time.

Despite most appearing in the Olympics, Eko Yuli's dream of winning an Olympic gold medal has not materialized. Therefore, the 2024 Paris Olympics will be his last chance to realize this ambition.

Meanwhile, Eko Yuli Irawan's achievements received appreciation from the General Chair of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), Raja Sapta Oktohari.

"Congratulations and extraordinary on new history for Indonesia through the achievement of a quintrick to appear at the Olympics from Eko Yuli Irawan. The consistency deserves appreciation and is a motivation for other athletes," said Okto, Raja Sapta Oktohari's nickname.

Before Eko, Indonesia had secured seven tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Three of them were secured by men's archery athlete Arif Dwi Pangestu, Diananda Choirunisa's archery, and artistic gymnastics athlete Rifda Irfanaluthfi.

The other four who went to France were shooting athlete Fathur Gustafian, men's rock climbing athlete Rahmad Adi Mulyono, women's rock climbing athlete Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, and Indonesian male surf athlete Rio Waida.
