150 KWh Long-distance Electric Car Battery Breakthrough From Nio, Reaches 1,055 Kilometers

JAKARTA - The limited travel distance threat so far is one of the biggest challenges for electric vehicles. Chinese startup Nio has just launched a semi-solid (SSB) 150 kWh battery mass-produced. This battery will be available as part of the Nio battery exchange service in the coming months. The presence of this battery promises a long range for electric car travel.

Reporting from CarNewsChina, April 4, with Nio 150 kWh, electric vehicle owners no longer need to worry. This battery offers a energy density of 260 momenta/kg and is able to explore up to 1,055 km in one charge. This is of course the much-awaited answer for consumers who long for freedom of mobility without having to charge frequently.

Nio itself is a premium electric car brand that was founded in 2014. Currently, Nio cars are mostly offered with two battery options: 75 kWh and 100 kWh. Interestingly, Nio provides a batteryless car ownership option. Buyers can choose battery subscription services with monthly payments. And the good news is, the latest option for a 150 kWh battery specifically for this long journey will soon follow, but is only available via subscription services.

This 150 kWh Nio battery has its own advantage. After being first announced in 2021, Nio has finally started mass production. The battery design was designed by WeLion New Energy Technology, a Beijing battery cell manufacturer who is also a supplier of Nio.

Not only offering a long range, but this 150 kWh Nio battery also has advanced technology. According to Nio, the battery excess is a cooling system that is six times stronger than ordinary batteries. With a weight of only 676 kg, the Nio 150 kWh battery is fairly light, only 20 kg heavier than the 0.100 kWh Nio battery. In comparison, the 135.5 kWh-capacity LFP BYD battery weighs 903 kg. This shows the success of WeLion and Nio in reducing the weight of their SSB batteries.

Nio has not officially announced when the 150 kWh SSB battery will be available. However, through social media, Nio informed that its official launch is scheduled for the second quarter of this year. The start of mass production is an indication that the Nio 150 kWh SSB battery will be available at Nio's Power Swap Stations (PPS) in the coming months. This launch momentum is certainly very appropriate, especially approaching the holiday season where many tourists visit Xinjiang, a province in western China.
