BMKG Reminds People To Beware Of High Waves When Ngabuburit On The Beach
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency urges the public to remain alert to high waves when submerging on the southern coast of West Java, Central Java, and the Special Region of Yogyakarta, especially coastal areas that are directly connected to the high seas.
Head of the BMKG Technician Group of Meteorological Station Tunggul Wulung Cilacap Teguh Wardoyo in Cilacap, Central Java, Saturday, March 30, said the appeal was given because the wave height of 2.5-4 meters which is categorized as high has the potential to occur in the Indian Ocean south of West Java to the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
"Currently, the wave height in the coastal area or southern waters of West Java to DIY is predicted to be around 1.25-2.5 meters or in the medium category, but in the Indian Ocean south of West Java to DIY it has the potential to reach 2.5-4 meters," he said, quoted from Antara.
In this regard, he said his party had issued an early warning of high waves in the Indian Ocean south of West Java, the Indian Ocean south of Central Java, and the Indian Ocean south of DIY which is valid until Sunday 31 March and will be updated soon if there are further developments.
According to him, the potential for high waves was triggered by wind patterns in the southern part of Indonesia, which generally moved from southeast to south with speeds ranging from 4-20 knots.
"Therefore, people who take advantage of the time to wait for breaking their fast by visiting the southern coast of West Java, the southern coast of Central Java, and the southern coast of DIY, especially coastal areas that are directly connected to the high seas or the Indian Ocean, are advised to be aware of the possibility of high waves reaching the region," he said.
Furthermore, he predicts that the southern waters of West Java-DIY and the Indian Ocean south of West Java-DIY are currently in a transition period from the westerly wind season to the east wind.
Thus, he said, the high wave conditions in the southern waters of West Java-DIY and the southern Indian Ocean of West Java-DIY tended to fluctuate.
