A Person's Terms Are Called Musafir And May Not Fast
YOGYAKARTA - Musafir is a group of people who are allowed not to fast. As generally recognized, a traveler is someone who is traveling long distances. Because traveling activities can cause difficulties and certain conditions, a traveler may not fast.
A person can be called a traveler, for example when traveling back and forth to his hometown. Long travel time and road conditions can certainly make travelers tired, thirsty, or hungry. For travelers who feel unable to fast, then get relief not to continue fasting.
However, the status of the Expert in Islamic teachings should not be misused. There are a number of provisions that make someone classified as a traveler. So what are the conditions for someone to be called a traveler so that they may not fast?
Teachings about relief from breaking the fast for someone who is traveling are found in the Quranic verse. In the letter Al Baqarah verse 185 reads:
"So whoever of you is sick or on a trip (then he opens), then (mandatory for him to fast) as many days left behind on other days."
Someone who is a traveler because he is traveling is given the right and relief in fasting. However, it does not necessarily mean that every person who travels can be called a traveler. There are several conditions for someone to be recognized as an immigrant.
Based on the opinion of the ulama, the term travelers in Islam involves 3 main conditions. These three conditions, namely leaving the wathan or residence, having a specific purpose, and having a minimum distance to the destination.
One of the conditions for a traveler is to leave the area of his house or residence. Getting out of the wathan means that he is physically no longer in the neighborhood where he lives. If you haven't left the area, then someone hasn't become a traveler.
Another requirement for a person to be a traveler is to have a clear purpose in traveling. One can be called a traveler when traveling with a definite or specific purpose. It's not just a walk to fill your free time and without a destination.
The next criterion for someone called the traveler is the distance on his way. A person must travel at least the distance that must be passed from the place of residence to the destination.
So how far can a person go? A person's travel distance can be called a traveler, which is approximately 80 km. During the distance, a traveler does not plan to stay or live in a place for more than 3 days.

Even though a traveler is one of the categories of people who get relief from breaking the fast, that doesn't mean they don't have to fast. One traveler can continue his fast as long as he feels capable. It would be better when a traveler is still strong to perform fasting to the end.
However, if the traveler experiences certain conditions that are burdensome or difficult, then he is allowed to break his fast. In the book 'Complete Guidelines for Ramadan Fasting According to the Al-Quran and Sunnah' written by Abu Abdillah Syahrul Fatwa and Abu Ubaidah Yusuf, it is explained that a pedestrian may not fast if he experiences the following conditions:
