KPU Responds To Anies-Cak Imin's Lawsuit Regarding Gibran Being A Vice Presidential Candidate: Strange, Previously No Objection

The General Elections Commission (KPU) said that the request from the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin camp regarding the cancellation of Gibran Rakabuming Raka's determination as a vice presidential candidate was best compared to the facts that had occurred.

The statement was made by the Head of the KPU Legal Team, Hifdzil Alim, in a follow-up trial of disputes or Disputes over General Election Results (PHPU) with the agenda of responding to the petitioner's petition, Thursday, March 28.

"If the applicant also argued that the determination of the candidate pair for vice president number 2 did not meet the formal requirements, the applicant should have objected or at least, objected when the implementation started from the draw of the candidate pair to the implementation of the campaign with a debate method for the candidate pair," said Hifdzil.

According to him, the applicant did not apply for an objection regarding the determination of Gibran Rakabuming Raka to the KPU during the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) contestation process.

In fact, Anies-Cak Imin as the applicant participated in the series of stages of the presidential election.

"That in reality, the applicant does not object at all to the respondent, starting from the draw of the candidate pair to the implementation of the campaign with the debate method of the candidate pair," he said.

"On the other hand, the applicant and candidate pair number 2, follow the stages starting from the draw of the candidate pair to the implementation of the campaign using the debate method of the candidate pair. Even in the implementation of the campaign using the candidate pair debate method, the applicant raises questions to each other, the rebuttal facilitated by the respondent," continued Hifdzil.

Thus, the steps taken by the applicant who filed the lawsuit were considered very strange. This is because it is inversely proportional to the facts that occurred.

"Once again, the applicant does not submit any objections. That it looks strange, if the applicant only argued that the 2024 presidential registration formal requirements were not fulfilled after the vote count results were known," said Hifdzil.

For information, the presidential election dispute lawsuit filed by Anies and Muhaimin has case number 2/PHPU.PRES-XXII/2024. In the lawsuit, they wanted a re-voting by disqualifying Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
