Richarlison Experiences Heavy Depression Can't Forget Brazil's Elimination At The 2022 World Cup

JAKARTA - Brazil's forward Richarlison is experiencing severe depression. Because of this, the Brazilian team was eliminated in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals after losing to Croatia.

Richarlison could not forget the painful failure at the 2022 World Cup. In fact, as disappointed as Brazil was eliminated, the Tottenham Hotspur striker once intended to retire from football.

However, he is still staying at Tottenham and does not imply he will hang up his boots. Richarlison also still gets a call from the national team.

Dorival Junior's new coach continued to call the 26-year-old when Selecao underwent trials in Europe against England and Spain.

Only he was not played in those two test matches. Richarlison also seems to be missing out on Brazil's first team after the appearance of young star Endrick.

Richarlison admits he needs a psychologist to restore his mental condition. This is especially after he was caught in tears when he was pulled out in a match against Bolivia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The player, who has a 48 stamp, was caught crying while sitting on the bench after being pulled out. In the match itself, Brazil won 5-1.

"I achieved my best performance while playing in the World Cup. At that time, I had reached my limit," said Richarlison. But in peak conditions, he failed to bring Brazil to achieve the highest achievement in Qatar. It frustrated him.

"I don't know anymore. I don't want to talk about suicide. But I was depressed and I wanted to give up," he said again.

"In fact, I may seem to remain mentally strong. But after the World Cup, my mentality has fallen," he said.

This season, Richarlison can still show his sharpness at Tottenham. He has scored 11 goals in 26 appearances with The Lilywhites.

However, Richarlison admitted that he felt depressed. He doesn't even know what's in his brain,

"Before training, I wanted to go home. I just wanted to go to my room because I said I didn't know what was in my brain. I even told my father that I wanted to give up," said the former Everton striker.

"It's sad to say. I just don't know how to get through it all after the World Cup. I can only come to my father. With him, I chased my dream. But I finally said that I gave up. This is crazy," he said.

Richarlison said he would undergo therapy. According to him, this is the best way to overcome his mental problems.
