Minister Of Transportation Budi Calls The Cargo Capacity Of Wani Port Palu Capai 82,000 Tons Per Year

Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi said the Wani Port which was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Palu, Central Sulawesi, has a cargo service capacity of 82,000 tons per year.

"With this construction, Wani Port has a cargo service capacity of 82,000 tons per year and can serve the largest ship 6,000 DWT (Dead weight Tonnage)," Budi said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 27.

Budi accompanied the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo inaugurating two ports in the Palu Bay area, Central Sulawesi, namely Wani Port and Pantoloan Port after rehabilitation after being hit by an earthquake in 2018.

The inauguration of the two ports is centered at Wani Port in the area.

Budi in an official statement in Jakarta, Wednesday explained that the construction of Wani Port will start from April 22, 2022 to December 30, 2023. The scope of his work includes the construction of a 150-meter-long pier, Trestle (access road / access from the pier to land) along 28 meters, office buildings, the garage of the state ship, and the mosque.

As for Pantoloan Port, construction starts from September 30, 2021 to November 22, 2022. The scope of work includes rehabilitation of a 93-meter-long trestle, construction of a 169-meter-long dock, extension of the top structure of the pier, as well as the building of the Harbormaster office and Port Authority (KSOP) covering an area of 1,500 square meters.

"Currently, the port is capable of serving the largest ship 30,000 DWT, with a container service capacity of 160,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) per year," said Budi.

Budi thanked President Jokowi for making a big contribution in realizing the development and development of sea transportation infrastructure in Indonesia, especially in the Central Sulawesi region.

"We also thank the ministries and institutions, the Indonesian House of Representatives, the provincial, district and city Forkompinda, the Asian Development Bank, as well as the people who have supported and synergized in the completion and use of two ports in Palu Bay," said Budi.

The President explained that the purpose of the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Wani and Pantoloan Ports was to restore the function of ports affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

Then increase the capacity of port services as a node for logistical activities, increase regional connectivity, and support economic activity in Central Sulawesi Province.

This project is financed through an Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, with a total work value of IDR 233 billion.

"We know that 2018 in Palu, Central Sulawesi was hit by an earthquake and tsunami. The port was destroyed. And thanks to our persistence, thank God, today we inaugurate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of port infrastructure in the Palu Bay area, namely Wani Port and Pantoloan Port," said Jokowi.

Jokowi also gave directions to continue to improve port facilities so that they are not inferior to ports in other countries.

Several steps can be taken, including strengthening ports with good service standards, management standards, and technology standards.

Furthermore, completing logistics services that are integrated and connected to other modes of transportation, the service will be faster and more efficient.

So that ports are the key to economic development in the country as well as important for the mobility of people and goods.
